Pepsi Throwback Campaign for the Win

Retro cans and made with real beet sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

Pepsi Throwback Campaign for the Win
I’ve been visiting my family over the Christmas Holidays, and during the visit I decided to make a holiday beverage spiked with some holiday cheer. When I opened the fridge the first pop that caught my attention was a red, blue, and yellow can. It was Pepsi’s Throwback can! The retro can is from the 80s, and the pop is made with real beet sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Intrigued by Pepsi’s Throwback, I did a quick search and discovered PepsiCo is also selling a Mountain Dew Throwback too. How neat is that?

Retro Designs Are Back

The retro packaging designs back and eye catching – with the use of bright colours and a minimalistic design the can stands out compared to other leading pop packaging designs. It’s refreshing to see Pepsi re-introduce the retro packaging theme because it brings back sweet childhood memories, especially during the holidays visiting with family and friends.

Real Sugar and PepsiCo

According to Wikipedia, PepsiCo announced that both Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback would become permanent additions to the Pepsi and Mountain Dew product lines, as long as consumers keep buying in the US! Which is awesome ‘cause the beverage is 100% better and you can truly taste the difference!
In Canada the product was returned in October 2012, but is only available for the next 8 weeks.

Check out the history of Pepsi and the Mountain Dew Throwback campaign on Facebook and Wikipedia. It’s pretty interesting to see the development of sugar and switch to high-fructose corn syrup.
