Does Your About Page Make These 5 Mistakes?

People want to know all about you and your site. But your About page could be sending them the wrong message.

The About page on your website is a wonderful place for customers and readers to get a sneak peek at what makes you tick. It’s more than just a space where they can find out about your business—it’s all about getting to know who you really are. This is one area you want to take advantage of.

Let’s take a few minutes to go over the five most common mistakes you’re making on your About page and fix it up for you.

  1. You don’t have a picture of yourself or your team. What better way to have your readers get to know you than by showing them what you look like? This tip gets overlooked a lot because some bloggers have privacy issues. But it’s time to get over it— a professional head shot is going to send business your way.

  2. You’re not being yourself. You’ve gone the safe route and added the same dry information that your competitors have. Readers will get more out of your site if you stand out. Add something personal or quirky that you can boast about, like you don’t have any cavities or love Tic Tac mints.

  3. There’s no way to get a hold of you. Yes, we know that you have a contact page, but adding that contact info while people get to know the real you can only help your cause. You want to make it as easy as possible for potential clients to contact you, and this is the perfect way to do it.

  4. You don’t have a story about you. Yes, we did mention adding some interesting information about yourself, but this is a bit different. Talk about yourself in the first person—talking about yourself in the third person is just creepy.

  5. You’re not engaging. Why would people want to hire you if you’re not at all engaging? Use your About page to be friendly, funny and inspiring to encourage the reader to connect with you. If you can’t write an About page that reflects why you’re so awesome and that makes people enthusiastic about working with you, hire a copywriter to do it for you.
