What’s Your Goal
You need to have a desired goal set up in order to quantify the end result. What do you want to accomplish with your social media marketing? Yes, we know you want more sales, but go deeper than that. Content needs to have a purpose in order to be creative and engaging – let’s face it, if you post “Give us your money,” you’re not going to see the results you’re after.
Be Consistent and Timely
Create a calendar that tells you when you should be posting on your social networks. You’re not doing your business any favours if you’re posting sporadically – people will tune out and go somewhere else if you only update your Twitter or Facebook status twice a year. As well, make sure your content is timely and relevant to the time of year. No one wants to read about Christmas during a June heat wave.
Know Your Audience
If you don’t know why people are following you or why they like you, you’re in a mess of trouble. You need to post content that’s relevant to your followers and engage them in conversation – there’s nothing worse than a social media wallflower! Be sure to talk with customers instead of at them.

There is always room from improvement, things you can tweak or areas you can cut out entirely – but you need the data to back up those choices. Track everything you can – from the amount of traffic your content is driving to the types of content that spurn the most engagement.
