How to Craft a Successful Social Media Content Marketing Plan
You’ve decided you want to take over the realm of social media – good for you! But do you have a plan? Without one, it’s like going into battle armed with a limp pickle. You’re not going to do much damage and you’ll probably just end up annoying people. We’re going to spare you the agony of defeat (and people pointing and laughing at you) by sharing our tips on how to craft a successful social media content marketing plan.

What’s Your Goal

You need to have a desired goal set up in order to quantify the end result. What do you want to accomplish with your social media marketing? Yes, we know you want more sales, but go deeper than that. Content needs to have a purpose in order to be creative and engaging – let’s face it, if you post “Give us your money,” you’re not going to see the results you’re after.

Be Consistent and Timely

Create a calendar that tells you when you should be posting on your social networks. You’re not doing your business any favours if you’re posting sporadically – people will tune out and go somewhere else if you only update your Twitter or Facebook status twice a year. As well, make sure your content is timely and relevant to the time of year. No one wants to read about Christmas during a June heat wave.

Know Your Audience

If you don’t know why people are following you or why they like you, you’re in a mess of trouble. You need to post content that’s relevant to your followers and engage them in conversation – there’s nothing worse than a social media wallflower! Be sure to talk with customers instead of at them.

Types of content

There are lots of different types of content you can use 5 Popular Content Types That Drive Traffic To Your Site, so switch it up and keep your audience on its toes. Get creative with blog posts, videos, photos, infographics, surveys, questions, white papers and more. Mixing it up is key to engaging your social media audience – have fun with it!

Track Your Results

How are you going to measure success? You’ve created contented, promoted the hell out of it and have become BFFs with your audience… but how well are you really doing? There is always room from improvement, things you can tweak or areas you can cut out entirely – but you need the data to back up those choices. Track everything you can – from the amount of traffic your content is driving to the types of content that spurn the most engagement.

Do you have a social media content marketing plan set up? What have you found to be your biggest successes? Have you found anything that doesn’t work so well for you? We’d love to hear all of it, so leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
