Think of your website as the hub of a wheel. In order to make the wheel go round, you need spokes to connect the hub to the tire. And social media networks are the spokes that are connected to your website hub, helping direct traffic to where you want it most. The hub is where you want to conduct your business, but social media gives you access to an audience you may not have been able to tap into with just a website.
One of the great things about using social media to drive traffic to your website is that it’s free. And what small business doesn’t like a little cost effective business? And we want to help you tap into it, so here’s a little incentive (as well as a tip or two) on how to positively use social media to increase the traffic to your site.
Search Engine Ranking
It’s all about the SEO! You want your business profiles and sites to be filling that first page of Google search. That means a Facebook and Twitter account will show up top of the page – perhaps even before your official website. Be sure to completely fill out the “About Us” sections to direct traffic from social media to your website. As well, many people will check out your social media accounts before coming to your website, just to see what others are saying about you. Make sure your brand or business is consistent across all channels.
Be Active In Social Media
Before you go out and sign up for every social media platform out there, make sure that you’re able to be an active participant of that platform in the first place. If your plan is to blast out continuous marketing messages on these networks, be prepared to be tuned out. You’re totally wasting your time. On the other hand, if you’re actually part of an active participation on these platforms, you’ll be able to more easily blend in with your ideal customers and build real engagement and relationships at the exact same time.
Offer Great Content
One of the best ways to attract traffic is by offering high-quality content. Don’t worry if you’re not a great writer – what matters most is speaking directly to potential customers’ wants and needs. Give readers a strong incentive to visit your website in exchange for information they value. And if you’re giving them awesome content, you’re giving social media followers a reason to keep returning to your website.
Contests and Giveaways
Want to get people excited about your products and services? You can do it on social media – and the fastest way to get people talking is to give things away. You should be giving stuff away constantly, but a contest brings new followers out of the woodwork. If there’s a chance to win something valuable, people are going to give your site more than a passing glance. Always be sure the contests refer buyers to your website, otherwise you may not see increased traffic at all. Tease on social media, but be sure to bring them to your site with a direct link to the contest blog post, which outlines all the prize details, rules and regulations.
